Most churches provide activities that cater to the preferences of seniors. potluck lunches, entertaining programs, social gatherings, and bus trips.
Is this as good as it gets for people moving into their prime golden years?
Seniors are blessed by the programs and activities churches provide. They are encouraged and enriched by music, speakers, good food, great fellowship, and trips to the mountains to pick delicious apples in the fall.
But God created us for so much more than to be blessed.
God created us to have a relationship with Him.
God created us to honor Him and bless others.
God created us to do good works for His glory.
When leaders strive to primarily serve the preferences of seniors, they miss the great potential of this generation to serve others and advance God’s Kingdom.
Let’s Consider A Fresh Vision for Senior Adult Ministry in our Churches
Psalm 92:14They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green.
- How well does this describe the older adults in your church?
- The focus and purpose of most ministry with seniors is "Serving Seniors"
- The heart of this scripture and message of the Bible is "Seniors Serving"
You do not need to stop the wonderful ways you serve and bless your seniors, but remember they are created for and capable of so much more.
Do not sell them short by believing they just want to sit and be served.
Let them serve . . . Challenge them to serve . . . Equip them to serve
